As leaders, we spend a lot of our time teaching and coaching the people around us to bring out the best in them. It is also essential for each of us to remain open to feedback and coaching too. Are you a coachable leader?

What are you doing to grow yourself?

It’s crucial that you are continuously growing and developing as a leader. It allows you to understand how your actions and decisions are impacting those around you, and how you can make changes to positively influence the people you lead. I spend a lot of time seeking out coaching and training opportunities for myself. How can I grow? I am sure if you are reading this, you do too! Classes, courses, videos, and blog articles (like those here at LeadTheTeam.net) these tools allow us to grow ourselves, provide new ideas, and ultimately become better coaches and leaders for the people around us.

What other resources do you use for training yourself?

Some of the best feedback on my decisions and my leadership that has come to me in my career has been when I am open (and vulnerable) enough to listen to the people I am leading for their feedback and suggestions. When you are open to feedback and coaching, you are showing your team that you are willing to listen and learn from them. It opens you up to many new ideas and situations. This helps to build trust between you and your team, as they know that you value their opinions and that their opinions matter. It also encourages them to be open and honest with you, which can lead to stronger relationships and better communication.

Remaining open to coaching and feedback helps keep us as leaders sharp; it keeps us up to date with new trends and developments in our respective industries. If you and I are constantly training ourselves, we are open to listening from a 360-degree perspective, meaning, seeking knowledge for ourselves, but also seeking and absorbing knowledge from our peers and those we employ, it keeps our minds from getting stale and dated. This can lead to better decision-making and more successful outcomes for our teams as a whole.

Staying coachable.

Being open to feedback and coaching can help you to stay motivated and inspired. By listening to new ideas and perspectives, you can gain a new perspective on how to approach a situation and how to better lead your team. This can help you to remain focused and energized in your role as a leader. Overall, remaining open to feedback and coaching as a leader is essential for your growth and development. In turn, that relates to your company and/or your team’s growth and development.

My suggestion for today… ask a peer or employee for feedback… “What do you need from me to excel even more in your role?” Take notes, and then take action on how can you apply that to grow yourself today!
