Do you have those days that you just don’t want to?

When you want to push your projects and … well, anything else for that matter to the back burner.

The days where you would rather eat cake and sit on a couch, maybe play video games, rather than make any strides towards great accomplishments? SURE! We all do!

You must ask yourself, why are you putting things off in the first place. Here are a few of the primary reasons that people put things off according to Psychology Today.

Reason #1    You are putting something off because you are afraid you will screw it up.

Reason #2    You are putting something off because you don’t “feel” like doing it.

Reason #3    You are putting something off because it’s hard, boring, or otherwise unpleasant.

While there may be other reasons also, I think many of us can categorize the things we put off, heavily into these three.

And the good news is that you can train yourself to be deliberate in NOT putting things off! Here is the number one thing that I do when I find myself putting something off.

  1. Visualize what the accomplishment will look like when it’s done. Take a time out and spend time, maybe in a meditation to see what it will look like when the task is done. Feel the emotions you will feel when you can look at yourself in the mirror and compliment yourself on a job well done. Or the joy in receiving the accolades from others. Sometimes we can set ourselves up for success in that manner.

For me, the feeling of accomplishment always crushes the illusion of fear. The happiness you will feel in getting things done will always outweigh the doldrums or the boredom.

So whatever it is that you may be putting off right now – Nike has a saying for that…

JUST DO IT. Once you do, and often once we get going, taking that action, putting in the effort, sometimes, that in itself makes it easier to keep going.
